SynDaver empire strikes back, promotes employee to the official title of Darth Vader

William Wright photo

William Wright, Darth Vader of SynDaver Labs(VP of Operations)

TAMPA, Fla. – A short time ago in a galaxy not so far, far away… SynDaver Labs, a Tampa-based manufacturer of synthetic humans, promoted an employee to the newly created rank of Darth Vader on Monday.

In his new role, William Wright will be responsible for all aspects of operations for the Death Star, which at SynDaver looks more like a clone manufacturing facility than a massive space weapon. Since joining SynDaver in July of 2015 as their director of operations, Wright has helped double the production rate for their wide range of products.

Although human resources has banned the Dark Lord’s signature force choke method for ensuring employee compliance, Wright’s new title has been well received by the SynDaver Stormtrooper team. Also included in Wright’s promotion is the new external title of vice president of operations.

Before joining SynDaver Labs, Wright spent over 25 years working in the medical device, biotech and manufacturing fields, both domestically and abroad. He previously served in a senior operations capacity for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and worked in roles from director of operations to general manager for a wide variety of companies both large and small.

“Our company has grown considerably over the last six months and Bill is doing a fantastic job in pushing SynDaver to new operational heights,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, chief technology officer and founder of SynDaver Labs. “I know that he will succeed in his new role, and although he is a proud member of the Sith, may the force be with him.”

SynDaver Labs is the world leader in manufacturing of synthetic human cadavers and provides a wide variety of products used by education institutions, medical device companies and countless other industries. Their products are anatomically correct and include nearly every component of a human body. More sophisticated cadaver models manufactured by SynDaver are even able to bleed and breathe, and the pupils dilate when exposed to light.

Hungry Gators sought to swim in Shark Tank company

UFGatorsGAINESVILLE, Fla. – SynDaver Labs, a Tampa-based manufacturer of synthetic humans, is looking to hire up to 60 entry-level engineers from the University of Florida during the Spring 2016 Career Showcase this Tuesday and Wednesday in Gainesville.

The unique company was founded in 2004 by Dr. Christopher Sakezles, a University of Florida alumnus, who needed to test medical devices he was developing, but wanted a more affordable and ethical alternative to animal and cadaver testing.

Since then, the company has taken the medical simulation industry by storm by introducing the most comprehensive synthetic human ever developed.

SynDaver’s Synthetic Human isn’t the only unique thing they have become known for. SynDaver stirred up headlines in November by boosting salaries throughout the company by 20 percent. In December they were at it again by giving away more than $1.5 million in stock to their employees for Christmas.

In addition to offering traditional employee benefits like 401(k)s, health, dental and eye insurance, SynDaver hired a health and wellness director last June to ensure their growing team of employees was provided the opportunity to have their physical fitness needs met at work by offering a variety of daily fitness classes. SynDaver Labs also instituted a healthy eating initiative where employees can sign up for free fruits and vegetables each week.

Their main staple is still, of course, the SynDaver Synthetic Human, which has skin with fat and fascia planes, all bones, muscles, tendon and ligaments, fully articulating joints, a functioning respiratory system with trachea, lungs and diaphragm, complete digestive tract from esophagus to rectum, urinary tract with kidneys, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and reproductive organs. A functioning circulatory system with heart, coronaries, aorta, vena cava and vasculature to the extremities is also included.

SynDaver’s Synthetic Humans work with all known imaging equipment, including CT, MRI, fluoroscopy and ultrasound, and all known surgical systems – even those that employ energy such as lasers.

In early 2015, SynDaver Labs was featured on the ABC television show Shark Tank. SynDaver’s products have also been featured on Mythbusters, Grey’s Anatomy and the series finale of CSI.

New Orleans high school becomes first high school to receive SynDaver Surgical Model

NEW ORLEANS – St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans became the first high school in the nation to begin using the SynDaver Synthetic Human Surgical Model this week.

The SynDaver Surgical Model is an elaborate and sophisticated full-body surgical simulator. The model is a 3-D jigsaw body puzzle with every muscle, bone, vascular component and organs removable and replaceable. It is programmable to simulate the circulatory system and will be used in senior and junior human anatomy classes.

“Through our growth, medical schools, hospitals and the U.S. military have adopted our products for education and training purposes,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, president and chief technology officer of SynDaver Labs. “We’re happy to say that St. Mary’s Dominican High School is now the first high school in the nation to adopt our technology and we’re sure that their students will gain a significant advantage over their counterparts in other schools.”

“We are excited to be the first high school in the nation to have the SynDaver Surgical Model which several medical schools use as part of their curriculum,” said Matthew Foss, Science Department Chair at Dominican. “It will allow our faculty to teach scale of the muscles, organs, and bones during their Human Anatomy classes. This is a complement to the classroom experience for our students. Thanks to the generosity of a benefactor, this addition was possible.”

The SynDaver is 66 inches tall and weighs 105 pounds (with the synthetic skin). When not in the classroom, it will reside in a 70”x 26” display storage tank. This wet storage keepDHS - SynDaver 037s the gel of the muscles hydrated and provides an anti-microbial environment.

Since 1860, St. Mary’s Dominican High School has been a leader of Catholic education in the New Orleans region. The school’s 155-year legacy is rooted in the tradition of prayer, study, community and service. These are the pillars of Dominican life and form the foundation for the Dominican student’s experience.

SynDaver Labs was founded in 2004 to commercialize a novel system of synthetic human body parts for the medical device industry. These sophisticated models replicate human anatomy in great detail, including individual muscles, tendons, veins, arteries, nerves and organs, all made from complex composites that mimic the properties of discrete living tissues. Made from water, fibers, and salts, each of these tissues have been validated for mechanical, chemical, thermal, and dielectric properties against the relevant living tissue.
