Straight Artery Designer


SynTissue brand synthetic human arteries are validated (axial and radial tensile modulus, puncture resistance, intimal coefficient of friction and abrasion resistance) against living tissue. These research-grade organs are designed to replace live animals, human cadavers and actual patients in medical device development and pharmaceutical research applications.



Our SynTissue brand straight artery designer allows you to build straight arteries based on your own specifications. These parts may be ordered with integral vascular couplings to allow mating with additional arterial branch segments. Odd sizes (ID increments of 1mm) are available with no additional tooling charges. We now also offer custom constructions with nonstandard of axial and radial wall compliance values as well as variations in chemistry (collagen composition, fiber layout, etc.)

Segments with an ID of 10mm or less employ a muscular arterial structure, while those greater than 10mm employ an elastic arterial structure. Typically, the medial layer occupies a larger portion of the cross sectional area in muscular (distributing) arteries than in elastic (conducting) arteries. Conversely, the elastic medial layer tends to exhibit a lower circumferential modulus than the muscular medial layer.

Basic model construction employs our patented SynTissue brand synthetic human arterial intima, media and adventitia layers. These materials are designed on the basis of physical tests performed on actual living tissue, and each synthetic tissue is validated (tensile modulus, penetration resistance, coefficient of dynamic friction, etc.) under the same physical conditions as the live tissue it is designed to simulate. The resulting synthetic artery responds to puncture, abrasion and balloon dilation just like a real living artery.
