CHARLOTTE, N.C. – SynDaver Labs, an advanced biotechnology company specializing in the creation of synthetic humans and animals for medical testing and training is scheduled to unveil a new wearable trainer at the Special Operations Medical Association Scientific Assembly May 21-25.
SynDaver Labs will show off the SynDaver SOF Suit, the world’s first and only wearable surgical trainer that employs realistic synthetic human tissue. The SynDaver SOF Suit weighs 30 pounds and can either be placed on a human patient simulator or be worn by a live actor to make training more realistic.
The SOF Suit (SOF stands for Special Operations Forces) training device features internal organs, vasculature, and skin that are user repairable and replaceable, and a wide variety of trauma and pathologies are also available. The suit allows for complex control of arterial and venous flow throughout the model using a wireless control.
In addition, since it is designed to be worn by an actor the suit includes complex armor to protect the wearer from surgical procedures. It can also be easily worn under military uniforms, ballistic armor and other tactical gear.
The SynDaver SOF Suit is made up of the same award-winning materials as those used in the SynDaver Synthetic Human, which are made from water, salts and fibers. These materials mimic the mechanical, physical and dielectric properties of live tissue.
“We designed this product specifically for NATO SOF troops, and unlike other simulators on the market, which are made of unrealistic silicone rubber, the SynDaver SOF Suit will allow for suspension of disbelief during field combat or civilian trauma training scenarios,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, founder of SynDaver Labs. “The SynDaver model also costs one-quarter of what the closest competitor costs.”
The SynDaver SOF Suit allows a wide variety of surgical procedures to be performed. These include thoracic and abdominal laparotomy and exploratory surgery, abdominal hemorrhage control with ligation, clamping or wound packing, bilateral needle chest decompression, chest tube placement, and many others.
“Wound packing, chest tube placement and needle chest decompression are all common training requirements for military members that are deployed to combat areas,” Sakezles said. “By training with this technology, service members will be better prepared to save someone’s life on the battlefield.”

Breathing bleeding synthetic body company coming to Texas
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – SynDaver Labs, a manufacturer of synthetic human and animal surgical trainers, is scheduled to attend the North American Veterinary Community’s 2017 Veterinary Innovation Summit from Apr. 28-30 at Texas A&M University.
Throughout the three day event, representatives from SynDaver will provide demonstrations of the company’s live-tissue replacement trainers and will unveil their latest model, a virtual reality multimedia platform that incorporates both human and animal anatomy renderings.
The table-sized device works by utilizing a touch sensitive LCD surface to allow students to view and manipulate digital renderings of human and animal anatomical structures.
“We are very excited to be able to bring this technology to the North American market,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, founder of SynDaver Labs. “Having a device like this is a game changer for classrooms because it will allow students to learn anatomy the SynDaver way, with both our tangible and virtual models in the same space.”
Additionally, SynDaver recently delivered 15 new SynDaver Surgical Canines to the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. The models will be used as the centerpiece of the school’s surgical training program during the 2017-18 school year and offer students a realistic alternative to live animal training.
Much like the SynDaver Synthetic Human, the SynDaver Surgical Canine is made of water, fibers and salts, similar to a real living organism and mimics live tissue. The device can breathe and bleed just like a real dog and has individual muscles, bones, and organs. Additionally, the synthetic canine can be operated on repeatedly without any risk to live animals.
Finally, SynDaver will also begin its search for a site to host a new Texas-based facility. Plans for the new facility are still underway, however the location will be used as an operations center for the company’s product refurbishment program.

First veterinary technician school to receive synthetic dog
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita Area Technical College will become the first veterinary technician teaching program in the nation to begin using the SynDaver Synthetic Canine, SynDaver Labs announced Monday.
Veterinary Technology students at WATC will begin using the Synthetic Canine during the 2017 spring semester. The SynDaver Synthetic Canine was developed by SynDaver Labs in Tampa and offers students a realistic alternative to live animals for training purposes.
“The Veterinary Technology program at WATC is ecstatic to have the first SynDaver Synthetic Canine in the state,” said Amanda Hackerott RVT Program Director – Veterinary Technology. “The SynDaver Canine is an amazingly unique piece of health-science technology and it is only fitting that the largest technical school in Kansas has it.”
The SynDaver Synthetic Canine is made of water, fiber and salt, just like a real animal. It is designed to replace live animals and animal cadavers in veterinary medicine training.
The SynDaver can breathe and bleed just like a real dog. It has individual muscles, bones, and organs. Additionally, she can be operated on repeatedly without any risk to a live animal. The USDA mandates that every attempt is made to reduce, refine or replace live animal use.
By using the SynDaver Synthetic Canine, Veterinary Technology students at WATC will be provided hands-on experience without being exposed to carcinogenic formaldehyde used to preserve dead animals. Additionally, in the past when a live animal is used in training, there is a limit to how many procedures one student can perform. With the SynDaver, there is no limit per procedure; all students will be able to practice skills as much as necessary without violating USDA regulations.
Students will also be able to practice invasive procedures that would not be as practical to perform on a live animal. This broad scope of practice while in school will help to prepare WATC students to become leaders in the veterinary medical industry.

Ad featuring life-saving synthetic technology censored by Facebook
TAMPA, Fla. – SynDaver Labs, a U.S.-based bio-technology company, tried to boost a Facebook post about their newest product, the SynDaver Synthetic Canine, on Wednesday morning, but minutes after the attempt, Facebook censored the post, citing “Advertising Policies.”
The video in question is a new promotional video featuring the SynDaver Synthetic Canine.
According to Facebook, the “boosted post’s image, video thumbnail or video can’t contain shocking, sensational or excessively violent content.”
Ironically, all of the content in the video, which could be deemed shocking, is synthetic and manufactured by SynDaver Labs.
“One of our goals is to produce the most realistic looking, feeling and responsive tissues, organs and bodies for both human and veterinary medical education and training,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, founder of SynDaver Labs. “I see this as a testament to how successful we have been at replicating the realism, but to see this level of censorship and not be able to promote our product via Facebook is nonetheless, disappointing.”
The SynDaver Canine is similar to SynDaver’s synthetic human models. They are anatomically accurate, with synthetic tissue, synthetic fat, synthetic bones, synthetic muscles, synthetic ligaments, fully articulating synthetic joints, and each of the bodily systems are also synthetic.

TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa biotechnology company unveiled their latest creation on Tuesday, a new skinless breed of dog, which will result in thousands of animals being saved as it is distributed.
SynDaver Labs, the world’s leading manufacturer of synthetic humans, unveiled the SynDaver Synthetic Canine and launched a $24 million crowdfunding campaign. The campaign will begin to end a process known as terminal surgery labs. The product will immediately end the need for terminal surgery labs in veterinary medical schools and represents the beginning of the end of animal testing in general.
The SynDaver Synthetic Canine is not only a skinless dog, but rather an extremely detailed and realistic surgical trainer. It will provide veterinary students with an anatomically accurate and realistic platform to practice surgical procedures. Similar to the SynDaver Synthetic Human, the canine utilizes SynDaver’s patented SynTissue, which mimics living tissue, includes a full list of functioning bodily systems, and has the capability to simulate customized diseases, illnesses and medical complications. The synthetic dog even has a heart with a heartbeat, a circulatory system, and bleeds when surgical cuts are made.
In addition to launching the SynDaver Synthetic Canine, the company also announced the launch of one of the most ambitious crowdfunding campaigns in history. SynDaver hopes to raise $24 million through their campaign page on Indiegogo.com. If the company is successful with the campaign, SynDaver will provide up to 20 synthetic canines to each accredited veterinary college around the world, completely free of charge.
By providing each veterinary college with a full complement of their new synthetic canines at no cost, SynDaver will effectively eliminate the practice of terminal surgery labs. In veterinary medicine, terminal surgery labs involve teaching students how to perform certain surgeries on live, anesthetized animals, and then euthanizing the animal immediately following the procedure. The SynDaver Synthetic Canine will also eliminate the need for canine cadavers, which are also typically euthanized animals from shelters.
While these kinds of labs are not as widely used as they once were, some veterinary colleges across the U.S. and around the globe still rely on terminal procedures to educate students.
“If we launched this product organically, it might take us a decade to put canine cadavers into every veterinary college and many more animals would die needlessly as a result,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, chief technology officer and founder of SynDaver Labs. “With the help of the crowdfunding campaign, we can do this practically overnight, and start to put an end to terminal labs for good.”
According to experts, this technology will save thousands of lives and revolutionize veterinary medicine education.
The SynDaver Synthetic Canine is similar to their human products. The canine models are anatomically accurate, with fat, fascia planes, all bones, muscles, ligaments, fully articulating joints, and each of the bodily systems. The product has been acclaimed by experts in the veterinary industry and has even garnered the support of Dr. Michael Blackwell, former chief veterinarian of the U.S. Public Health Service.
“A significant number of students do not care to be involved in terminal surgery procedures or the use of live animals when there is an alternative,” said Blackwell. “I am so happy to have this change because that is where we need to be today.”
SynDaver has been working closely with the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine throughout the development of the SynDaver Synthetic Canine to create the most lifelike and realistic synthetic canine possible.
